Lynch Syndrome & Cancer Prevention

Cancer tends to run in my family...my Grandparents, 2 Uncles, and Mother have all had various types of cancers. Colon, brain, uterine, kidney, bladder, and ureter. Recently, one of my aunts learned about Lynch Syndrome. "People with Lynch syndrome have an increased risk of cancers of the stomach, small intestine, liver, gallbladder ducts, upper urinary tract, brain, skin, and prostate. Women with this disorder also have a high risk of cancer of the endometrium (lining of the uterus) and ovaries." It costs a bundle to get tested for Lynch Syndrome, but I have a feeling it is prevalent in my family... So I think it is time to start living a preventative lifestyle!

As all fitness professionals know, living a healthy lifestyle means
staying fit, eating right, reducing stress, and staying positive! I've done a little research gathering some information to share with you today. Some helpful hints & reminders to increase our odds of preventing/surviving abnormal cell growth...

Slash Your Cancer Risk

First, the good news: You probably won't get cancer.

That is, if you have a healthy lifestyle. "As many as 70% of known causes of cancers are avoidable and related to lifestyle," says Thomas A. Sellers, PhD, associate director for cancer prevention and control at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa. Diet, exercise, and avoidance of tobacco products are, of course, your first line of defense, but recent research has uncovered many small, surprising ways you can weave even more disease prevention into your everyday life. Try these novel strategies and your risk of cancer could dwindle even more.
